Second-Stage Operation: Glenn Operation

If the child tollerates the Norwood Operation, the next operation performed is the Glenn Operation.

This operation diverts all the blood coming back from the upper body through the Superior Venacava (the major vein coming from the upper body).

After this operation is done all of the blood coming from the upper body is diverted to the lungs so more pink blood is coming back from the lungs to the left side of the heart.

However, all the blood coming back from the lungs is still going to the left side of the heart, crossing the Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), and mixing with the blue blood in the Right Atrium and Right Ventricle.
